Local people invited to find out more about North Wessex Downs AONB pylon removal project

Going underground - speak to the team at Devizes Market

Local residents are being invited to find out the latest information about plans to remove a 4.5km section of overhead transmission line including up to 13 pylons in the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and bury the electric power lines underground.

The scheme aims to significantly enhance views north of Devizes as part of National Grid’s Visual Impact Provision project to reduce the visual impact of existing high voltage power lines in protected areas across England and Wales.

Over the past eighteen months, National Grid has explored a range of potential underground routes for the new cables, and its plans have been refined with the advice of local experts and community representatives including from the North Wessex Downs AONB Partnership, Wiltshire Council, Natural England and Historic England.

Now that more detailed proposals have now been developed, local people have the opportunity to share their views and hear more about how the construction will be managed before a detailed planning application is submitted to Wiltshire Council.

Members of the project team will set up stall at Devizes Market on Thursday 30 September (7.30am – 2pm) and on Thursday 7 October (7.30am – 2pm). They will be available to talk through the latest plans and answer questions.
